The CEO’s Column: Local Businesses in Global Media (March 2021)

March is already coming to a close, spring has arrived, and another edition of my column is out! Once again, I will be highlighting businesses that made the news outside Quebec due to major achievements, acquisitions, or any other aspect that showcases Quebec’s dynamism.

Here are some announcements that caught our attention these past few weeks and that helped distinguish the Québec City region’s ingenuity, creativity or determination internationally.

Fruit d’Or

Well known in Quebec, Fruit d’Or is a berry producer and processor specializing in cranberries and blueberries. To reinforce its presence in the United States, where the company already sells in large quantities, Fruit d’Or has acquired Decas Cranberry Products, which has been noticed in various places around the globe. This will assuredly help strengthen its position as the largest producer of organic cranberries in the world!

BKOM Studios

Québec City’s video game sector keeps drawing attention even from outside the province, and once again BKOM Studios has found its way into international media. The studio offers a full range of digital services to help brands develop their presence on various platforms, particularly through games. To help in this endeavour, the Quebec studio has partnered with gamigo, one of Europe’s leading video game publishers, to develop a new turn-based strategy experience for mobile. This partnership has been relayed by several media outlets around the globe.

Creaform

Creaform specializes in designing and manufacturing 3D measurement and analysis technologies such as portable 3D scanners. Ranging across several industries, its products are already used in many countries. It is no surprise that the launch of Creaform’s new product line has been heavily covered in the media earlier this month as the company unveiled the Silver Series for its product HandySCAN 3D.

Using technology to help kids learn and be active: this is exactly what Lü is doing with its audiovisual systems and gymnasium applications. Gymnasiums in over 20 countries already rely on this immersive experience, which is gaining more and more fans and attention. Moreover, adding this equipment at a new location often gets reported in local news or on municipal websites, as was the case with recent installations in Europe.
