So here is once again a summary of some organizations that stood out outside the province of Quebec over the last month, thus contributing to shedding a positive light on our region.
H2O INNOVATION
April was a very busy month for H2O Innovation, which specializes in water treatment systems. After announcing the renewal of an operation and maintenance contract valued at $13.9 million annually with its largest client, the city of Gulfport, Mississippi, the Québec City company signed a letter of intent regarding the acquisition of Leader Evaporator’s operations, a U.S.-based company that has sold maple sugaring equipment and supplies for over 130 years to maple syrup producers mainly located in the United States.

BID GROUP
BID Group, a leader in wood processing technology that operates two facilities in Beauce, has announced a strategic partnership with Yaskawa America to introduce automated systems into its operations. Founded in 1924, the Quebec company offers state-of-the-art solutions to its clients in the wood-processing industry, and this partnership will help pursue this mission.
TERO
Each year, the Toronto-based daily newspaper The Globe and Mail releases a list of 50 emerging Canadian leaders. We were very proud to see Elizabeth Coulombe, cofounder of Tero, as part of that list in 2022. Elizabeth and Valérie, both graduates of Université Laval, collected $1.75 million in crowdfunding to bring their end-of-studies project to life: a device that transforms food waste into natural fertilizer. We had met with the cofounders last year during the first season of our podcast, Fables d’entrepreneurs, to learn about their story. The episode is still available on our website (in French).
LUCAS MEYERS COSMETICS
Lucas Meyers Cosmetics has long made a name for itself in the cosmetics and personal care industry. The company has an office at Place de la Cité, in Québec City. Recently, it was awarded the gold medal in innovation for its active ingredient WASTAR™ Pink Berry during the In-Cosmetics Global Trade Show in Paris, France. This event is the annual meeting for cosmetic and beauty product ingredient producers.

EXFO
Quebec company EXFO, a group of experts in testing, monitoring and analytics in the communications industry, announced that a Tier 1 U.S. mobile network operator has chosen to deploy EXFO’s Nova Active testing capabilities across their 5G network. This is excellent news for this Quebec institution!

Once again congratulations to all these businesses that are making the greater Québec City region shine throughout the world. I am very happy to see them contribute so brilliantly to Québec City’s global recognition, and they can count on us to support their growth.
We will interrupt this monthly column for the summer and return in September for more highlights! In the meantime, please continue to share stories of local businesses that made the news abroad at info@quebecinternational.ca.
Wishing everyone a wonderful summer!
