The CEO's Column: Local Businesses in Global Media (September 2021)

September is already drawing to a close. Synonymous with the start of the school year, the change of season and great hiking opportunities for many of us, September was also a good time for the region's businesses to get noticed internationally. As is my habit, I will take the time in my monthly column to highlight some of the organizations in the greater Québec City area that have made headlines in the media outside Quebec.

Here are a few announcements that have caught our attention recently, and that have allowed the greater Québec City area to shine internationally, whether through its ingenuity, creativity or determination.

Nesting Games

Video game industry veterans made an important announcement earlier this month: the creation of a new studio in Québec City. Aiming to deliver character-driven, story-driven and immersive role-playing games (RPGs), Nesting Games has quickly gained international attention for the concentration of skills in its team, and its vision for game development. The studio aims to eventually employ around 60 people and release its first AAA game in 2025, with the support of Italian publisher Digital Bros.

Snipcart

Snipcart is a Québec City-based company that offers e-commerce solutions tailored to the needs of website designers and developers to simplify their integration. With the growth in popularity of online commerce and the quality of Snipcart's products, it is not surprising that the company has caught the eye of Duda, a California-based giant specializing in web platform creation. Snipcart has accepted an acquisition offer from Duda, a union of forces that has been well noticed, with benefits that will be visible from 2022 in the deployment of collaborative versions.

La Souche

Many beer lovers can confirm: the Québec City region is full of microbreweries offering high-quality beverages. One of them, La Souche, has made its mark internationally, winning two prizes at the World Beer Awards. The Franc bois d’hiver was named best raspberry beer, while the Gose vie sale was rated best Gose in the world. Many countries participated in this competition, giving international visibility to the winners, including this young microbrewery founded in 2017.

TeraXion

Québec City technologies are definitely on the radar of international companies, and TeraXion is another example. The company, which specializes in photonic components, helps design and manufacture numerous laser, telecommunications and detection systems around the world. TeraXion's capabilities and achievements have motivated the American company indie Semiconductor to acquire the Quebec-based organization to accelerate the development of its solutions for driver assistance and autonomous vehicles. This alliance will enable both companies to increase the development and deployment of effective and innovative solutions, and received worldwide attention earlier this month.

Once again, congratulations to all these companies that are making the greater Québec City area shine throughout the world. I am very happy to count on these ambassadors to distinguish Québec City, just as they can count on the Québec International team to help them pursue their growth.
